Full Description

This powerpoint presentation outlines Present Water Quality Goals that include:Remove Particulate Matter;Inactivate Pathogenic Organisms;Eliminate Tastes and Odors;Minimize Disinfection Byproduct (DBP) formation; and,Remove Natural Organic Matter (NOM). The presentation continues by outlining Future Water Quality Goals that include:Pharmaceutically Active Compounds;Algal Toxins;Emerging Pathogens; New or Reevaluated Disinfection Byproducts; and, Other Emerging Contaminants. Diagrams are provided for: a conventional treatment plant; converting to Convert to High Rate Clarification, Biofiltration; adding chlorine dioxide, ozone, granular activated carbon (GAC) post contactors, and ultraviolet disinfection; and, the final process schematic summary. A diagram of the water treatment process is provided and each of the seven steps are outlined and include: chlorine; ballasted flocculation enhanced coagulation; ozone; deep bed filtration; GAC contactors; UV light; and, chlorination. Multiple barriers to meet present goals include: particles; pathogens; taste and odor; disinfection byproducts; and, natural organic matter. Multiple barriers to meet future goals are listed and include: pharmaceuticallyactive compounds; algal toxins; emerging pathogens; and, new disinfection byproducts.
