Organic polymers are widely used in water treatment as coagulants to enhance the agglomeration of particles. Polymers are especially effective in the direct filtration process, where they produce a filterable floc without generating excessive sludge. Although polymers are used extensively for this purpose, the optimum coagulating conditions (i.e. rapid mixing intensity and time) have not been widely studied. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum rapid mix G-value and mixing time in terms of filtered water turbidity.
